Hey guys! How are we doing? I'm super bummed we are not going to be at Lost Lands this year and wanted to share some of my favorite throwback dubstep classics that got me into having such a deep love for dubstep!

Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites
Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites was the song that cracked my world open. My best friend played it for me in college and I remember just sitting there, completely still, trying to process what I was hearing. The vocal chops, the chaotic energy, the way that drop hits like a freight train — I had never heard anything like it. It's the kind of song that doesn't just introduce you to dubstep, it converts you. The sampling, the sound design, the melody that somehow holds all that chaos together — this is the one that started everything for me. There's a reason it's number one.
Mt Eden - Sierra Leone
When I first heard Mt Eden - Sierra Leone, I must have been 18 years old. This was one of my first introductions to dubstep and it was on constant rotation. Everything from the album cover to the hypnotizing vocal loop - the drum beat and melody is exactly why this made it on my list.
Sunlight by Modestep
Sunlight by Modestep is an explosive dubstep masterpiece and still gives me goosebumps. Everything about this song is what makes dubstep throwbacks timeless. I've caught Modestep at Lost Lands and their performance along with Nero had to have been one of the sets with the most nostalgia!
Promises by Nero
Promises by Nero has such a soft spot in my heart. Nero was my first rave in the community and I was in college at the time! Alana Watson's vocals throughout the track are striking and so powerful alongside the massive dubstep drops. When people say EDM doesn't have meaning, show them this song. Some may know the Skrillex Remix. Each version is a heavy hitter but the OG reigns for me!
Eyes on Fire by Zeds Dead
Eyes on Fire by Zeds Dead is such a hair raiser. From the immediate drop to the liquid effects breaking the barrier of sound, the bass shakes the vocal stems to the core. And who can forget that this sample is the same song from Twilight — if you know, you know.
Gold Dust by DJ Fresh (Flux Pavillion Remix)
Gold Dust by DJ Fresh (Flux Pavilion Remix) was already a certified banger but Flux Pavilion took it somewhere else entirely. What makes this remix stand out is how intentional every layer feels. Flux has this signature way of building bass weight that doesn't just hit you, it accumulates. Each minute of this track adds something new without ever losing the thread. The sampling is sharp, the energy is relentless, and Flux's sound design turns what was already a great track into something that feels genuinely timeless. This one still holds up every single time.
Cockney Thug by Rusko
There is so much to love about this track. Cockney Thug by Rusko has a playful style with vocal sampling of Bricktop from Snatch that brings chaotic energy to the melody. Everything from the build up, the breakdown, and every moment in between is a journey worth hearing twice.
In For The Kill by La Roux (Skream Remix)
In For The Kill by La Roux (Skream Remix) is an emotional masterpiece. Hands down, I think this song made me really love breakbeat and drum and bass. La Roux stunned with her eerie vocals, the harmonious melody carrying her voice like silk. Then the drop hits and it's intentionally delayed.There's a little pause before it breaks into that drum and bass sound. Absolutely worth the wait every time.
Ghost N Stuff by Deadmau5 (Nero Remix)
Ghost N Stuff (Nero Remix) is one of those tracks that makes the wobble sound feel intentional and alive. What I love about this is Nero's dark, brooding take on the Deadmau5 classic. The original with Rob Swire has those iconic opening chords but Nero filters and warps the vocals into something heavier and more atmospheric. The wubs paired with the chord progression are chef's kiss and the whole thing feels reminiscent of Nero's Welcome Reality album, that same cinematic, bass heavy world they built.
Crave You By Flight Facilities (Adventure Club Remix)
Crave You By Flight Facilities (Adventure Club Remix) is one of my favorites! There's a lot about this remix that works, the gradual build up and the decimating drops. The breakdowns sound as if you're being taking over by a sea current. From the album art, the stunning vocals by Giselle! It's true, I crave you.
